Karutz Smallgoods, co-founders
Rod and Ros Bates introduced their favourite German-style smallgoods recipes to Western Australia in 2005, starting with award-winning German mettwurst from the Barossa Valley region in South Australia.
Since then, Karutz Smallgoods has expanded into jerky, biltong, pâté and more — and launched a unique new brand, Artisan Game Specialists, featuring artisan jerky, biltong and smallgoods made from Australian game meats including kangaroo, crocodile and emu.
From wholesale to the Fremantle Markets
Karutz Smallgoods originally started in wholesale, then moved into selling at local and regional food festivals — including the Perth Royal Show, Perth Good Food & Wine Show, Mandurah Crab Festival and Dowerin Field Day.
In 2009 we started trading from the iconic Fremantle Markets, where we still operate today — bringing artisan smallgoods directly to Perth locals and visitors from all over the world.
