The Fremantle Markets have been running since 1897 and we’ve been in them for sixteen years. Come in through the South Terrace entrance and ask anyone for the mettwurst shop — they’ll point you at us.
Come and taste before you buy. That’s the part you can’t do online, and it’s the reason the stall still matters to us. Rod will hand you a piece of whatever you’re curious about.
What we sell
Beef jerky — Original, Cracked Pepper, Chilli, Herb & Garlic. 250g, 500g and 1kg, sliced or unsliced. Gluten free.
Beef biltong — Original, Pepper, Peri Peri, Peri Peri & Garlic. Craft biltong made in Perth, air-dried, 98% lean Australian beef.
German mettwurst — plain, garlic beef, chilli-coated, kangaroo and venison. This is what we’re known for, and it’s why the sign says “The Mettwurst Shop”.
Artisan Game — kangaroo, emu and bush plum crocodile jerky. Game pâtés. Venison chorizo. Kangaroni biersticks. There is very little like it anywhere in Perth.
Salami, pepperoni, chorizo and biersticks — Hungarian csabai, garlic red wine salami, hot and mild pepperoni, Spanish chorizo.
Can’t get to Fremantle?
We ship right across Western Australia and the rest of Australia — 1–3 days, free over $150.
Perth metro orders usually land the next day. If you’re in Bunbury, Geraldton, Kalgoorlie or anywhere else in the state, it’ll take a day or two longer and it’ll arrive in exactly the same condition.
A German smallgoods family in Western Australia
Rod and Ros started Karutz in 2005, supplying smallgoods wholesale. In 2010 we took a stall at the Fremantle Markets, mostly to see what would happen, and never left.
The German charcuterie tradition — mettwurst, salami, biersticks, proper cured sausage — is what we came up in. Artisan Game is what happened when we pointed that technique at Australian animals: kangaroo, emu, crocodile, venison, wild boar.
Sixteen years at the same markets. Still the same two people making the decisions.

Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 8am to 6pm. We’re a markets stall — those are the days the markets are open.

We ship Australia-wide, and Perth metro orders usually arrive the next day. Free over $150.
Where can I buy biltong in Perth?
From us, at the Fremantle Markets, Friday to Sunday. Our biltong is craft biltong, made right here in Perth.
